All La Crosse County Trails are Closed .

Thursday, Feb. 2,2012:  Happy Ground Hog Day. We have had temps in the mid 40's. There is no snow left on the roads, only have the snow banks left. It is looking like this winter may be lost season for snowmobiles in our part of Wisconsin this year.  The 10-day forecast is predicting a possible snowfall for Sunday but then that is followed by a week of temps in the mid 30's to low 40's.  We need at least a 8 inch snowfall to even consider opening our trails.

La Crosse County Snowmobile Trail Report

Saturday, Jan. 28
ALL Snowmobile Trails in LaCrosse County remain CLOSED due to lack of snow. This includes the LaCrosse River Trail from Rockland to Onalaska and the Great River Trail from Onalaska to Trempealeau.

These last warm days did not do our trails any favors.  We are very sorry to report that trails will remain closed.  The upcoming weather reports do not sound any more promising.  Please do not ride the closed trails, we have been getting reports from landowners that are not happy to see violators out and about.   For some, it does not take much to close a trail to everyone forever.   Thank you.

We are also looking for information about individual(s) who intentionally cut a barb wire fence next to a locked gate to gain access to more closed trails,  this happened sometime Monday evening(1/23/12). The person(s) who did this could face charges of trespassing, criminal damage to property and possibly more! We have approximately 145 miles of trails on private property, the reason we close the trails is to protect the fields and land from damage due to lack of snow, warm temps & and heavy traffic. Each year we ask over 250 landowners for permission to have a trail on their landif we start getting upset landowners we will start losing segments of trail for everyone. Please respect these property owners. When we say trails are closed, this means everyone!

Sunday, Jan. 22. 2012:  Sparta had their annual Fun Day yesterday.  Members on the trails said trails were rough. Our snow has not been the packing kind, leaving groomers little to nothing to pack into the little pot holes on the trail.  Today's forecast has freezing rail coming, lets hope it is more snow than rain.

The La Crosse Tribune has the complete obituary for Onalaska Sno-Drifter member Paul Nelson.

Saturday Jan. 21, 2012: Our area has received some very sad news this weekend.  A long standing member of the Onalaska Coulee Sno-Drifters lost his life while snowmobiling in Michigan.  Paul Nelson will be very fondly remembered.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
