An incident that occurred this past weekend has upset snowmobilers and land owners alike. As a result, the following letter was sent in by a concerned snowmobiler for publication on this site. Please read it in its entirety. It pretty much says it all.............
In La Crosse County, we have 132+ miles of snowmobile trails that are all taken care of by volunteers who live in the area that also enjoy snowmobiling. This past weekend, it was very disappointing to see snowmobilers that were riding on these groomed trails and going throughout the County going off the trails to climb the hills and go through the fields of any they felt they wanted access. The only time that this particular group of snowmobilers used the actual trail was when it was the only possible way to get to the next hill or field that was not on the trail. There is a reason why we have trails marked the way we do. We have to stay on the trails in order to keep them groomed and to protect our landowners. Riding the trails is not a right, it is a privilege and because of the action of these snowmobilers, they will ruin our trails. Our trails are in the best possible conditions currently with all of the snow and the great job that our groomer operators have done with the grooming. There is a lot of hard work that goes into maintaining these trails. If you are on a snowmobile and are not on the designated snowmobile trail, be forewarned that you will be ticketed and fined for trespassing!!!! Please do not ruin the trail system in La Crosse County for the rest of the snowmobile enthusiasts that know how to read the signs on the trails, especially the ones that state STAY ON THE TRAIL!!
So what does this mean to all of you who are looking at our web page looking for the trail status, updates, etc? Take a stand. If you see anyone misusing the trail system, please to help enforce the status of our trails by turning them in. Please do not let these careless snowmobilers destroy the work that has went into our trail system and stop them in their tracks!!!
Thanks.
From one fellow snowmobiler who loves to play on her snowmobile!!!
